2015 BMW 3 Series Buyer's Guide

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “benchmark” as something one can use to judge the quality or level of other similar things. When it comes to entry-level small luxury cars with sporting overtones, the word is defined as the BMW 3 Series. Going all the way back to the days of its predecessor, the BMW 2002 and its antecedents, BMW’s lithe sport sedan has been universally acclaimed for its combination of strong build quality, outstanding driving characteristics, and the ability to seat four people while doing so. Nothing less than a sports car with a back seat, BMW raised the expectations of all other sporty cars with its outstanding execution of this model. And, none of them is more desirable than the ultra high performance BMW M3.

What makes it move?

A 425-horsepower, twin-turbocharged inline six-cylinder engine with 406 ft-lbs of torque powers BMW’s M3. Two transmissions are offered; a six-speed manual with automatic rev matching on downshifts, and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DCT) with BMW DriveLogic. The DCT offers an automatic mode and a manual-shifting mode. Shifts are executed with no interruption of power. The DCT also features a launch control mode to maximize acceleration. It can also recognize when the M3 is understeering and relieve power to help pull the car back into line.

Why buy the 2015 BMW 3 Series?

The primary reason to buy a BMW M3 is to experience the ultimate in the sheer unalloyed joy of feeling one with your automobile. BMW automobiles are the smoothest cars on the road. They do everything with a grace and fluidity you’ll be hard pressed to find in any other product—even those renowned for smoothness. Further, the 3 Series cars endow their drivers with quick acceleration, determined roadholding, a supple ride, reasonable fuel economy, and more than a heaping helping of style. If you’re solidly into the assets of the 3 Series but still looking for the ultimate in an extremely powerful sedan, BMW’s M3 is the one you want. If you really love driving, nothing else in this category can even come close.
