2016 BMW 4 Series Buyer's Guide
For the 2014 model year, BMW reorganized its model nomenclatures to have its coupes represented with even numbers and its sedans represented with odd numbers. Thus, what would have been the 2014 BMW 3 Series Coupe, became the 4 Series, while the 3 Series sedan remained known as the 3 Series. Since then, BMW has introduced a four-door hatchback coupe version of the 4 Series, which it refers to as the 4 Series Gran Coupe. So just when we thought we had it all figured out, it gets confusing again. For the record, the BMW 4 Series is also offered as a convertible. The model is offered in the USA with a choice of two engines and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.

What makes it move?
The base engine is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder with 242 horsepower and 258 ft-lbs of torque. The upgrade is a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six good for 300 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, while a six-speed manual can be had as a no-cost option with all of the rear-drive coupes, as well as the all-wheel drive six-cylinder coupe. Engine stop/start technology is also employed to shut the engine down at traffic signals and stop signs to conserve fuel.
Why buy the 2016 BMW 4 Series?
While the models’ nomenclatures may have changed, the attributes of the cars have resolutely remained the same. BMWs 4 Series Coupe, Convertible, and Gran Coupe are solidly built, attractive in appearance, and wonderfully delightful to drive. The 2016 BMW 4 Series engine lineup is powerful, economical, and amazingly smooth. The all-wheel drive option makes them outstanding cars all year around, with the added benefit of improving handling on dry pavement in the warm months. The convertible offers a retractable hardtop, providing you with the best of both worlds—an open car when the weather’s nice, and a closed coupe when it isn’t; or when you need more security. Further, luxurious appointments ensure the BMW 4 Series driving experience is as comfortable as it is exciting.
