2016 BMW X6 Buyer's Guide
If the idea of a crossover sport utility coupe seems a bit odd to you, please allow us to introduce you to the first of its kind—the BMW X6. Introduced in 2008 as a 2009 model, we’ll be the first to admit BMW’s distinctive take on the SUV is unique. After a subtle redesign for the 2015 model year, the X6 grew slightly longer, wider, and taller. The interior was updated to allow the seating of five and extra space was apportioned to rear seat passengers. There is a downside to that stylish silhouette though; while BMW’s X6 shares much with X5, the X6 does give up quite a bit in terms of utility to its squared off sibling. But it does have more style.

Power comes from a choice of three engines. The base powerplant is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six-cylinder with 300 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque. The next step up is a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 good for 445 horsepower and 480 ft-lbs of torque. The top engine offering is a 567-horsepower version of the turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with 553 ft-lbs of torque, powering the X6 M. All are offered with an eight-speed automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, and all-wheel drive—except the X6M, which is rear-drive only.
Why buy the 2016 BMW X6?
If you’re the sort who prefers a measure of exclusivity in your choice of a wheeled conveyance, the BMW X6 serves strongly in this regard. The model sells in limited numbers, so the odds of seeing yourself coming and going everyday are considerably reduced. Meanwhile, you get all of the legendary smoothness and performance potential for which BMW is justifiably known. Another attribute of BMW models wholly possessed by the X6 is the outstanding fit and finish of its interior components. When you look around the X6 you know where the money went. And then, when you punch the throttle, you’ll realize you got a really good deal. BMW’s powerful engines are the smoothest in the business and they’re right at home in the X6.
