What's New for the 2004 Nissan Frontier? For the 2004 Nissan Frontier, a Supercharger Value Truck Package for the King Cab configuration debuts, which includes 16-inch alloy wheels. The SE trim level has been dropped, leaving the XE and SC models to choose from. On the XE, the fenders, front bumper and fascia are now body colored. Two new colors, Radiant Silver and Red Brawn, round out the changes for the year.
Advantages of the 2004 Nissan Frontier:
- Optional stability control is unusual in this segment
- Longest bed in the compact crew cab class
- Reputation for durability
- Rugged construction
Objections to the 2004 Nissan Frontier: - Extremely tight rear quarters in extended and crew cab models
- No dedicated off-road package is available
- Uncomfortable driving position
- In dire need of a complete redesign
Editor's Advice: The 2004 Nissan Frontier provides a durable, multi-purpose package for pickup buyers wanting everything from a bare-bones work truck to a luxury-lined personal use image vehicle. The availability of upscale options such as leather upholstery and premium sound, coupled with a wide array of body configurations and trim levels, makes the Frontier an appealing package. We do take issue with the almost-useless rear accommodations in both the extended and crew cab models, the uncomfortable driving position, and the need for a supercharged engine on a pickup. Just give us a normally aspirated powerplant with enough torque and horsepower to get the job done, as well as an off-road package with a beefier suspension to traverse the tough stuff. A completely redesigned Frontier is set to debut for 2005, based upon a modified Nissan Titan platform. It cannot arrive soon enough.
