What's New for the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX? The 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX lineup is expanded with the high-performance WRX STi. A true sports car, the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi boasts 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 300 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm, all-wheel-drive, a six-speed manual transmission and the ability to reach 60 mph in less than five seconds. Regular WRX models are also enhanced for 2004, with head and side airbags standard along with projector beam fog lights. Styling is also revised for 2004, and the Impreza WRX gets a larger hood scoop. Rear styling is updated with revised lighting and a restyled bumper. All models get remote keyless entry, a central door lock button on the center console, a new pump-lever seat height adjuster and collapsible pedals. The WRX sedan can be outfitted with a Premium Package that includes a power moonroof, heated front seats, rear spoiler, heated exterior mirrors and windshield de-icer. Advantages of the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX:
- Any model is fun, but jaw-dropping performance is standard with the STi model
- Available in wagon or sedan form
- All-wheel drive surefootedness
Objections to the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX: - Cramped driving position for those with inseams above 32 inches
- Brutishly rough ride for daily commutes
- Cramped rear seat accommodations
Editor's Advice: The WRX is an honest sports sedan with rally car breeding that plants a fat smile on the face of all who drive one. The new WRX STi is brilliant, a sports car wrapped in what would be an anonymous sedan cloak were it not for the huge rear decklid wing. Not only is the STi one of the best performing cars sold in the United States, but it also offers significant bang-for-the-buck. Test drive it back-to-back with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and just try to wipe that grin off your face.
