What's New for the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara? Two models of the Suzuki Grand Vitara are available for 2004: the LX and the EX, each with a standard V6 driving either the rear wheels or all four wheels. All 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitaras receive new headlights and taillights, a new spare tire cover, silver roof rails, color-keyed door handles, and a new panic button on the remote keyless entry fob. Uplevel EX models receive a standard automatic transmission, new-design alloy wheels, a power sunroof, fog lights and a spoiler. Three new colors also debut for 2004.
Advantages of the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara:
- Seven-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty
- One of the few small SUVs with true off-roading capability
Objections to the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara: - Could use additional power, despite standard V6
- Rear seat room is barely adequate for adults
- Among the smallest maximum cargo capacities in the SUV class
- Real 4WD capability brings with it a rough ride on pavement
Editor's Advice: True four-wheeling ability, coupled to one of the best powertrain warranties in the industry, is the primary selling point of the old-school 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. This truck rides on a ladder frame with a live rear axle; 4WD models get a two-speed transfer case with low-range gearing for nasty hill climbs and descents. People who need this kind of capability in the smallest possible package will love the 2004 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Others will complain loudly about the choppy ride quality on paved roads, the just-adequate power from the V6, the cramped quarters aft of the front seats, and the small cargo area. We do not recommend the Suzuki Grand Vitara as a real-world daily driver.
