What's New for the 2005 BMW 3 Series? In its final year on the market before a complete redesign, the 2005 BMW 3-Series gets a standard power moonroof on all sedan, coupe and wagon models. Additionally, fog lamps and automatic climate controls are now standard across the line. The 325Ci convertible receives a power drop top as standard equipment, and the 330Ci convertible includes most of the amenities from last year's Premium package in the price of admission.
Advantages of the 2005 BMW 3 Series:
- Silky inline six powertrains
- Telepathic road feel
- Brilliant handling does not come at expense of ride quality
- Free scheduled maintenance
Objections to the 2005 BMW 3 Series: - Price premium over many competitors
- Funky SMG engagement
- Occasionally difficult clutch modulation with manual transmission
Editor's Advice: Some people buy BMWs because they want to impress their friends and neighbors. AutoSite recommends BMWs because they are pure joy to drive. Driving enthusiasts should consider adding the Performance package, which includes engine modifications that increase output to 235-horsepower and 222 lb.-ft. of torque; a 3.07:1 performance final drive gear ratio; a short throw shifter; an autobahn-tuned sport suspension; an M aerodynamic package including rear spoiler; and special 18-inch wheels shod with sticky rubber. If a BMW 3-Series doesn't put a smile on your face, check your pulse.
