What's New for the 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan?
After receiving a freshening last year, Dodge's 2005 Stratus Sedan gets few changes this year. A new Special Edition option package adds chrome wheels, a rear spoiler, and fog lights to the Stratus SXT for a sporty look. A new two-tone Dark/Light Taupe interior is also offered on the SXT. The Stratus R/T receives fake carbon fiber trim and an 8-way power height-adjustable driver's seat, along with leather upholstery. Outside, the R/T is decorated with a body kit and what Dodge calls a "race spoiler." New colors include Linen Gold, Midnight Blue, Magnesium Pearl and Inferno Red Crystal Pearl. And if you wanted an SE or ES model, sorry, they're now only sold to fleets.

Advantages of the 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan:

  • Roomy interior
  • Powerful V6 engine

Objections to the 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan:

  • Poor resale value
  • Rental car stigma
  • Lacks refinement of Japanese competitors

Editor's Advice:
Dodge is remaking itself into DaimlerChrysler's performance brand, but the Stratus Sedan makes do with fresh paint and minor package updates for 2005. There's a good car here; a sporty sedan that could come alive with the right engine, transmission and suspension. As is, however, the good-looking 2005 Dodge Stratus Sedan is a wallflower relegated primarily to fleet sales. We still think it deserves a look at discounted prices.
