What's New for the 2005 Ford E-Series Van? Only a handful of changes are made to the 2005 Ford E-Series Van this year. A heavier-duty four-speed transmission is optional on E-150 models, and standard on E-350 Super Duty and Extended models. Electronic throttle control is now standard fare, the "slim line" engine cover console becomes a no-cost option, and the 5.4-liter Natural Gas V8 has been discontinued. The QuietFlex composite racks and bins package instantly turns the E-Series Van into a commercial workhorse.
Advantages of the 2005 Ford E-Series Van:
- Lots of utilitarian rack/bin packages to choose from
- Very good payload ratings
- Many configurations to select from
Objections to the 2005 Ford E-Series Van: - Oldest full-size van on the market
- Engines not as powerful as those in GM vans
- Not as large inside as Dodge Sprinter
Editor's Advice: When it comes to full-size cargo vans, you must choose between Dodge, Ford and General Motors products. The 2005 Ford E-Series Van does not fare terribly well matched up against the competition from General Motors, suffering from greater age and less powerful engine choices. However, the Ford offers nicer exterior styling than anything in the commercial class, and is sized better than the Euro-influenced Dodge Sprinter for daily driving in North America. For commercial use, the E-Series Van is a genuine workhorse, but not our top pick.
