What's New for the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe? Hyundai upgrades the 2005 Santa Fe to keep this aging SUV competitive. The four-cylinder model is dropped, leaving the 2.7-liter V6 as the standard engine. ABS with traction control is now standard on all Santa Fes. Styling tweaks give the Santa Fe a cleaner and better-integrated appearance through the inclusion of a new grille, updated side cladding, revised taillights, and a fresh rear bumper cover. New wheels with thicker spokes provide a more upscale look to the Santa Fe. Inside, a subtle two-tone color scheme is standard, along with new seat fabric and a three-point seatbelt for the rear center seating position. A new instrument cluster debuts, models with the optional sunroof get a compass, and a power driver's seat is standard on the LX model. Advanced dual-stage front airbags have been added for better protection, and two new colors called Steel Blue and Mocha Frost debut for 2005. Advantages of the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe:
- Standard side-impact airbags
- Ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty
- Large and comfortable interior
- Quality cabin materials
- Impressive light-duty off-roading capability
- Smooth ride quality
- Attractive value equation
Objections to the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe: - Intrusive road and wind noise
- Lame towing capacity
Editor's Advice: Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, and our eyes see more beauty than ever before on the outside of the updated 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. Despite its advancing age, this is a fundamentally appealing entry in the small SUV marketplace. The Santa Fe is roomy and comfortable, equally adept on the pavement or well-traveled dirt roads, and is protected by an impressive ten-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Side-impact airbags are standard on all models, and the top-shelf Santa Fe LX 3.5 is well equipped for a relatively small price. We haven't tried the 200-horsepower, 3.5-liter V6 engine, but can't imagine that it would disappoint since we find the 170-horsepower, 2.7-liter V6 entirely up to the task of tugging the Hyundai Santa Fe around. If you like what you see, you'll love the 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe.
