What's New for the 2005 Nissan Armada? After its first year on the market, the Nissan Armada receives a few upgrades for 2005. Active head restraints and front seatbelt buckle pretensioners are added to all Armadas, and the Armada SE gets a unique wheel finish to distinguish it from the LE. Last year's Upgrade packages now come standard, the SE Sunroof package includes a power rear liftgate this year, and the Technology package gains a handy rearview monitor. Otherwise, the Armada carries over unchanged.
Advantages of the 2005 Nissan Armada:
- Impressive amounts of interior space
- Fold-flat second- and third-row seats
- Well-suited for adventures both on-road and off
Objections to the 2005 Nissan Armada: - Handles and rides more like a truck than a car
- Dimensions less suited for the tight parking spaces of many urban areas
Editor's Advice: Nissan fulfills America's seemingly unquenchable thirst for gas-guzzling behemoths with the Armada, which dukes it out with such competitors as the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the Dodge Durango, the Ford Expedition, the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL, and the Toyota Sequoia. To battle these segment stalwarts, the 2005 Nissan Armada offers rugged design, refined interior materials and luxurious accommodations: even the base SE models get such niceties as 18-inch alloy wheels, a tire-pressure monitoring system, stability control, side-curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, back-up obstacle warning sensors and an in-dash CD changer. Step up to the LE model and receive heated leather seats, a power driver's seat with memory, second-row bucket seats, seat-mounted side-impact airbags for front occupants, a power rear liftgate, and a premium stereo system. Goodies like a DVD-based navigation system, rear-seat DVD entertainment system are optional. Given the fact that most SUV owners use their vehicles for carting their nuclear families around town, you've got to wonder about the appeal of the Nissan Armada's massive size and truck-like driving characteristics. Still, for those who need the bragging rights for the best tow rating, prodigious occupant space and competent off-road abilities, the Armada is a formidable contestant in the full-size SUV smackdown.
