What's New for the 2005 Nissan Xterra?
Nissan's Xterra is all-new for 2005, receiving a new platform, updated body, a roomier interior, and a more powerful 4.0-liter V6. Other new additions include an available fold-down front passenger seat, a double-deck glove box, and additional storage bins for front passengers. The cargo area gets a rubberized easy-clean floor, and 10 utility hooks to keep items in place. There's a new channel-lock system in the cargo floor that accommodates bike racks, and a 300-watt Rockford Fosgate is available for an explosive audio experience.

Advantages of the 2005 Nissan Xterra:

  • Impressive off-road capability
  • Reputation for durability
  • Powerful new V6 engine
  • Roomy and utilitarian interior

Objections to the 2005 Nissan Xterra:

  • Tall step-in height
  • Noise, vibration and harshness
  • Fuel economy
  • Side-curtain airbags not available on all models

Editor's Advice:
Kudos to Nissan for portraying the Xterra exactly as it should – as a capable vehicle for young, virile extreme sport fans, and not as a de rigueur fashion statement for urbanites wishing to project an outdoorsy image. This is a real truck, not one of those popular crossover vehicles that can barely climb a parking block. If you spot an Xterra with 2WD you know that the driver's not having nearly as much fun as he could be. For off-road travels with a minimum of muss and fuss in a handsome, rough-and-tumble truck, the 2005 Nissan Xterra 4WD is a compelling choice.
