What's New for the 2006 Cadillac STS-V?
The Cadillac STS-V is a new performance variant of the STS luxury sedan. Under its hood is a supercharged 4.4-liter V8 that produces 469 horsepower and 439 lb.-ft. of torque. A new six-speed automatic with manual shift control directs the engine's power to the rear wheels, and it's the only transmission available. Other performance V-series upgrades include powerful Brembo brakes, larger wheels (18s in front and 19s for the rear) with Pirelli run-flat tires, quicker steering, and a performance-tuned suspension tested on Germany's famed Nurburgring racetrack. The Cadillac STS-V can be visually identified on the outside by its larger front air intake, sculpted hood, 10-spoke wheel design, higher rear spoiler, and special V-series badging. On the inside, Cadillac gives the STS-V special wood and metallic trim highlights and optional Tango Red-colored inserts for the dash, doors and seats.

Advantages of the 2006 Cadillac STS-V:

  • Massive power from supercharged V8
  • Large and comfortable interior
  • Secure handling

Objections to the 2006 Cadillac STS-V:

  • Not as agile as other cars in its class
  • Annoying control interface

Editor's Advice:
In years past, European automakers have been the only ones selling specialized sport-oriented luxury sedans in America. As a buyer, you would go with the BMW M5 for its athleticism, the Jaguar XJR for its classic styling, the Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG for its stately refinement or the Audi S8 for its all-wheel drive. But for 2006, revitalized Cadillac has another alternative: the performance-oriented STS-V. While you shouldn't expect it to match the M5 or E55 AMG in regards to their respective strengths, the STS-V could be a very appealing car in its own right. It's new, it's something different and the go-fast hardware specs stand equally as tall as the Germans'. Factor in its reasonable price and large interior and you've got a luxury sport sedan worthy of consideration.
