What's New for the 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty? Ford makes the formerly optional Lariat Luxury Package standard equipment on all F-250 Lariat models, which is also offered with available 20-inch polished and forged alloy wheels. Those wheels are also offered on the King Ranch and Amarillo models. Amarillo trim is available on the Lariat, and includes Blazing Yellow exterior paint, additional chrome exterior trim, black leather seats with special logos, and unique interior trim. A Chrome Package for the XLT and Lariat adds a billet grille and chrome coating the side mirrors, tow hooks, exhaust outlet, step bars, and tie-down hooks. Other modifications are limited to minor changes to various option packages, and the 6.0-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel engine meets Clean Fuel Fleet requirements for Low Emission Vehicle certification. Advantages of the 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty:
- Rugged construction
- PowerStroke Turbodiesel option
- Impressive towing/hauling capacity
- Optional factory-installed trailer brake controller
- Bad boy good looks
Objections to the 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty: - Tough to maneuver in urban areas
- Base 5.4-liter V8 has trouble towing heavy loads
- Hard to get into and out of
Editor's Advice: Choices in the heavy-duty truck market are limited, with Dodge, Ford and General Motors fielding entries. Each buyer has specific needs and oftentimes brand allegiance dictates what kind of truck someone buys. The 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty compares favorably against the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, the Dodge Ram 2500 and the GMC Sierra 2500HD. Just be sure to closely compare payload and towing ratings to be sure you find the right model for your needs.
