Advice to buyer: |
A good car, but don't get stuck on the Rav just becuase it is a Toyota - shop around and test its competitors. |
Detailed review: |
It's not a bad car at all, but for all the accolades of Toyota build quality and fit and finish, I'm not that impressed. We bought this car for my fiance, so she does most of the driving in it. The Rav has alot of road noise at highway speeds, and also lets alot of engine noise into the cabin too. The ride is rather bumpy - worse than my 2003 Blazer which itself rides on a live axle truck suspension - you really feel the northeast potholes around here in the Rav. The automatic transmission hunts for gears a bit on inclines, and in normal driving sometimes downshifts are abrupt, other times it will delay them. It also has a few squeeks and rattles in only 20k miles, one prominently somewhere in the headboard above the driver, and another in the dash. I did not expect this from a Toyota. Highway gas mileage was not very good either, gets about 23-24mpg at 70mph. A 160hp 2.4L 3300lb car should do better than that. The dealership experience was less than spectacular too, but I can't blame the car for that. |
