Advice to buyer: |
AVOID HONDA AS HONDA AMERICA CLEARLY STONEWALLS ON WHAT APPEARS TO BE BROAD BASED PROBLEM. |
Detailed review: |
Our 2003 Honda Civic EX, stock equipped, gets 16 mpg city and 23 highway. The car is EPA rated 30/38. A dealer service dept. 24 mile city/highway road test averaged 19.8 mpg although they claimed that a dynometer test covering 1.6 miles indicated 39mpg. All parties, from Honda techline to Honda's regional representative to Honda Consumer Relations all espouse the party line, which is that mileage will vary according to driving conditions, driver, etc. They are clearly stonewalling. I have, off the record, learned thru a Honda service manager, that others have complained of poor mileage. I am currently about to have a retest by a different dealer at the behest of the EPA person who handles Honda. The bottom line is that Honda refuses to acknowledge a defect in manufacture. The car is 16 months old, purchased new, and has just under 7000 miles driven. If Honda doesn't address this major defect, I will next use my attorney to trigger a lemon law case. I am wondering if others who read this know of a similar problem. |
