I really wasn't a fan of the first Kia Soul commercials. I'm sure you remember the one with hamster wheels all over the road with hamsters running on them, obviously not going anywhere? The "smart" hamsters then rolled by in a Kia Soul jamming to some trendy hipster music, and all the other hamsters took note. My issue was in representing boring cars (that aren't the Soul), the hamster wheels didn't actually GO anywhere. Hamster balls would have been far more appropriate and comical, as like boring cars, they can actually transport you places. Somehow this tomfoolery won Nielsen's Automotive Ad of the Year, but I think round 2 is much more deserving.
In its latest spot, Kia got my e-mail. The hamsters are back, but this time they're rapping. No, really, rapping as in Black Sheep's The Choice is Yours. It's a very comical bit, in which Kia ditches the hamster wheels for driving toasters and washing machines. It's all sorts of brilliant, and it's a must watch after the jump.
Wow. Great commercial. Did you catch though, that your maligned hamster wheel does make a quick appearance? Pretty ingenious call back, subtle though it may be. I agree with the Dude that Kia (well, their ad agency) has done a great job of hitting the target with that commercial. Much more-so than with the hamster wheel first try.
The thing I find really interesting is how well that song holds up and fits here. A truly commendable choice.

Hilarious and Genius at the same time. This commercial is probably the best car commercial....nah....the best commercial all month at least.
Kia is smart and it really shows. I guarantee they are hitting their target demographic big time!
I am starting to see the Soul all over the road. And it a great segment to be in. Think of how many millions of Scion xB's and Nissan Cube's you see on the road.
Not to mention $14K and 31 mpg ARE great numbers to have as ammo~
