Equipped with a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 that generates 475 horsepower and an estimated 475 lb.-ft. of torque, a six-speed manual transmission, and Brembo disc brakes, the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra GT500 has all the makings of future collectible classic. To keep all that power flowing through the rear wheels to the ground, the Shelby Cobra gets a retuned MacPherson strut independent front and solid axle with Panhard rod rear suspension. Ford says that the Cobra’s suspension has been validated on the track, courtesy of the Mustang FR500C, which recently won the championship in the Grand-Am Cup Series. Wheels measure 18 inches, and are fitted with P255/45ZR high-performance tires. Cobra coupes get thick, wide white stripes on the hood, roof, and trunk, while convertibles carry the traditional Shelby rocker stripe. Both cars feature Cobra logos just about everywhere – including, for the first time, one on the front grille.
