The fact that the Land Rover folks saved the presentation by their survival expert for the last night of our stay was probably just as well. As we relaxed in the comfort and security of the lounge at the top-drawer Chan Chich Lodge, we were regaled with scary stories—and scarier photos—of all manner of jungle hazards, from tiny fly larvae you can feel wriggling and feeding under your skin to giant snakes that would just as soon have you wriggling under theirs. The presentation, while fascinating, gave new meaning to the phrase "ignorance is bliss."
