2016 Dodge Journey Buyer's Guide
Dodge took advantage of an overlooked niche in the marketplace with the in-between sized Journey in 2009. A bit larger than a compact crossover SUV, and yet smaller than a mid-sized crossover, the 2016 Dodge Journey SUV performs admirably in both spaces. Adults will fit in its second row, children will fit in its third row, and there are built-in child booster seats to save parents the time and expense of fitting aftermarket units into the vehicle. What’s more, like all of the other Dodge models, the Journey represents an excellent value for the price. Essentially a modified version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Journey takes many of the most significantly desirable attributes of the minivan and transplants them into a crossover SUV format.

What makes it move?
The 2016 Dodge Journey’s base engine offering is a 173-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 166 ft-lbs of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive is the way it comes. The upgrade is a 283-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 with 260 ft-lbs of torque. A six-speed automatic handles transmission duties, along with front wheel drive. All-wheel drive is offered as an option. Fuel economy with the four-cylinder is 19 MPG in the city/26-hwy/21 combined. The V6 returns 17 in the city, 25 on the highway and 19 combined.
Why buy the 2016 Dodge Journey?
The Journey’s fold-flat seats create abundant cargo capability, while the passenger accommodations we discussed previously make the 2016 Dodge Journey SUV an admirable family car too. While we’re on the subject of folding seats, the front passenger seat folds forward to further facilitate the handling of cargo. The second row seats offer a reclining function for added comfort. Storage bins in the floor provide hidden cargo capacity to keep valuables out of sight when the Journey is parked. By the way, those bins are also removable, which make them easy to clean—as well as accommodating for muddy boots and the like. Up to date touches like text to speech capability, and voice command offer greater utility. Standard features include push-button start and a touchscreen audio system.
