2015 Ford Edge Buyer's Guide

The Ford Edge is a mid-sized crossover SUV that shares the same platform as Ford’s Fusion sedan. Redesigned for 2015, the Edge features a completely new sleek and stylish exterior. Still limited to two rows of seating, the rear seats are roomy, even for normal sized adults, and cargo space is abundant, especially with the seats folded down. The available panoramic Vista Roof has a large forward panel that can tilt or open fully, and a fixed rear skylight; together they help make this generation’s slightly larger interior bright and airy. Available Intelligent AWD maximizes traction, and the new model’s stiff body structure and the standard suspension tuning provide a ride that is both athletic and comfortable, though Sport models may be too stiff for some drivers.

What makes it move?

The Edge offers a choice of three engines, all backed by a 6-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. The standard engine is the 2.0 liter EcoBoost, which makes 245 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque when running on 93 octane fuel. The optional engine is a normally aspirated 3.5 liter V6 that generates 280 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque.

The only engine choice available for Sport models is the 2.7 liter EcoBoost, which makes 315 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque, on 93 octane.

Why buy the 2015 Ford Edge?

With its car-like ride and available high-end features like a heated steering wheel and heated and cooled seats, the inside of the Edge is a very nice place to be, though options quickly raise the MSRP. Available safety technologies include Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Collision Warning, and a Blind Spot Information System. Ford’s inflatable safety belts are also available for the outboard seats in the second row. Crash test ratings for the previous model were good, but the current model has yet to be tested. To improve fuel economy, Active Grill Shutters and a Front Air Curtain direct air around the vehicle more efficiently. With the trailer towing package, towing capacity is 3,500 pounds with a max tongue weight of 350 pounds.
