2015 Ford F-150 Buyer's Guide
The 2015 Ford F-150 is a full-size light-duty pickup truck. Completely redesigned for 2015, the truck features a frame that uses 78% high-strength steel and a body that is nearly 100% aluminum; new models are up to 700 lbs lighter than outgoing models. This weight savings leads to better payload and towing capacities, as well as better fuel economy, performance, and handling. The F-150 has available class-exclusive inflatable rear safety belts that help spread crash forces across more of the torso, as well as active safety features including AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Curve Control, a Trailer Sway Control System, a Blind Spot Information System, Collision Warning with Brake Support, and even Active Park Assist.
What makes it move?
The F-150 has four available engines, each of which is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The base engine is a normally-aspirated 3.5 liter V6 that puts out 282 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is rated at 18 mpg city, 25 highway, and 20 combined with two-wheel drive.
The newly available 2.7 liter turbocharged EcoBoost V6 generates 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. It also offers the best fuel economy numbers at 19 mpg city, 26 highway, and 22 combined.
The 3.5 liter EcoBoost is still available, and it pumps out 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 17 mpg city, 24 highway, and 20 combined, again for rear-wheel drive models.
If you want V8 power, your only option is the normally-aspirated 5.0 liter V8, which makes 385 horsepower and 387 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 15 mpg city, 22 highway, and 18 combined.
Why buy the 2015 Ford F-150?
The F-150 is a capable vehicle, with a maximum payload capacity of 3,300 lbs (a regular cab with the 5.0 liter V8 engine, 141.1 inch wheelbase, and 2-wheel drive), and a maximum towing capacity of 12,200 lbs (a regular cab with the 3.5 liter EcoBoost V6, 141.1 inch wheelbase, and 2-wheel drive with 3.55 gears). Depending on how you configure your truck, it can also be a luxury vehicle, with heated and cooled leather seats, Adaptive Cruise Control, a Twin Panel Moonroof, and a power sliding rear window. The Boxlink system helps make the pickup box more usable by offering more ways to secure cargo, including Ford and aftermarket accessories, while the available tailgate step and stowable loading ramps help get things in and out of the box.
