2016 Ford F-250 Buyer's Guide

There are certain strenuous tasks for which a standard full-size pickup needs to be more robust to accomplish. This is why any serious manufacturer of pickups also has a line of heavy-duty models to take up the slack. And when it comes to the Ford F-250, slack is taken up big time. With its pair of powerful engines, available four-wheel drive, and Herculean towing and payload capacities; if you’re looking to do some heavy hauling, the Ford F-250 is one tough pickup (…to borrow a phrase). More than just a hardcore heavy hauler, though, the Ford F-250 is also pretty long on comfort and convenience features. In fact, should your desires dictate, you’ll even find a selection of the finest in leather and wood trims to suit your esthetic requirements.

What makes it move?

The Ford F-250 is offered with a choice of gasoline or diesel power. The gasoline engine is a 6.2-liter V8 with 385 horsepower and 405 ft-lbs of torque. The diesel is a turbocharged 6.7-liter V8 with 440 horsepower and 860 ft-lbs of torque. The transmission is a six-speed automatic, regardless of the engine choice. Buyers can choose between rear, and four-wheel drive. With the diesel engine and a proper towing kit fitted, maximum towing capacity is 14,000 pounds. With a fifth-wheel setup, the F-250 is good for dragging up to 16,800 pounds. Maximum payload capacity is 4,130 pounds.

Why buy the 2016 Ford F-250?

Ford offers three cab styles—two-door regular cab, four-door extended cab (also known as the Ford SuperCab) and four-door crew cab. With five trim levels, you can configure the F-250 for just the right balance of comfort and capability. The availability of telescoping trailer tow mirrors, and an integrated trailer brake controller means the F-250 drives right off the showroom floor ready to haul. Modern work-truck features include lockable storage bins for tools and equipment; and an optional front bench with a middle seat section capable of accommodating a laptop or hanging files. F-250 can also be had with the Ford Work Solutions Package’s in-dash computer.
