2016 Hyundai Elantra Buyer's Guide

The 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT is a stylish compact 5-door hatchback that was first introduced as a  2013 model year. Though based on the Elantra that was first introduced in 2011, it still looks modern thanks to a recent refresh. Unfortunately its sporty looks (and GT model name) aren’t really reflected in the way it drives, but the powertrain is smooth, and the ride is comfortable. The interior is spacious (as large as some mid-size cars) and well put together, and the cabin is quiet and road noise is well isolated. Adults have plenty of leg room, even in the back, though head room for those in the rear might be a bit tight (though still better than most in the class).

What makes it move?

All Elantra GTs come with a 2.0 liter direct injection 4-cylinder with Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) that helps improve torque, lower emissions, and increase fuel economy. The engine pumps out 173 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission or an optional 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC and the Active ECO System. Fuel economy is the same with either transmission at 24 mpg city, 33 highway, and 27 combined.
