2016 Infiniti QX70 Buyer's Guide
The Infiniti QX70 is a mid-size luxury SUV that happens to share its platform with Nissan’s 370Z sports car, giving it good handling and a willing engine (though unfortunately, no manual transmission). Previously known as the FX until it was renamed late in 2013, the crossover’s smooth, rounded exterior is one of the nicest in the category, but the interior suffers with a cramped rear seat and a small cargo area. The current generation was unveiled for the 2009 model year, but an update in 2012 helped keep the QX70 fresh with a new grille and bumpers, new wheel designs, and an interior with a new instrument cluster. An entirely new model is expected soon.

What makes it move?
The QX70 is powered by Nissan’s venerable VQ engine, in 3.7 liter form. Generating 325 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, power is sent to the wheels via an electronically controlled 7-speed automatic gearbox with Adaptive Shift Control (ASC). If you want to get a bit more frisky, a manual shift mode offers sequentially selectable manual gearshifts with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM). Rear-wheel drive models are available, as are models with Intelligent All-Wheel Drive that automatically shifts from rear-wheel drive to All-Wheel Drive when conditions warrant the extra traction. Fuel economy isn’t great compared to others in the segment: 17mpg city/24mpg highway/19mpg combined for the RWD, and 16/22/18 for AWD.
Why buy the 2016 Infiniti QX70?
The QX70 is not an SUV for someone who plans on ferrying around passengers, frequent off-road excursions or even moderate towing. If you’re looking for a sports car with a bit of extra space and all-wheel drive or a great looking and good handling crossover, it might just be the vehicle for you. Standard features include a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, leather-appointed seating with heated (and optionally climate controlled) front seats, a Bose 11-speaker Premium Audio system, a power sliding moonroof, and a power rear liftgate with electric closure assist. Safety features include front-seat Active Head Restraints, Electronic Brake force Distribution, and Brake Assist. Optional safety systems include Forward Collision Warning, Intelligent Brake Assist, Intelligent Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning and Prevention, and Distance Control Assist. The QX70 has been rated Good by the IIHS in the moderate front overlap crash test.
