2016 Jeep Wrangler Buyer's Guide

Universally proclaimed as the most capable SUV on earth, the 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport Utility Vehicle is indirectly descended from the one credited with starting it all. Going into World War II, the U.S. military needed a go-anywhere, do-anything, general-purpose vehicle. When all was said and done, once all of the most innovative automakers of the day had submitted their proposals, what emerged was a vehicle very similar to today’s 2016 Jeep Wrangler. If you’ve ever wondered where the “Jeep” name comes from, it developed from the military designation of the general-purpose vehicle. In other words, G.P. = Jeep. The Wrangler has since evolved into one of the most iconic automobiles the world has ever known. The modern version of the Wrangler is in its third generation.

Chrysler’s versatile 3.6-liter V6 is adapted for duty in the 2016 Jeep Wrangler SUV. Output is 285 horsepower and 260 ft-lbs of torque. Four-wheel drive with high and low range gearing is standard equipment. A six-speed manual transmission with hill start assist is standard, while a five-speed automatic with both hill start assist and hill descent control is optional. Why buy the 2016 Jeep Wrangler?

Available in both two-door and four-door body styles—as well as open and closed configurations—the 2016 Jeep Wrangler SUV offers creature comforts that the drivers of those first Jeeps would consider the stuff of science fiction. While the basic layout resembles those military vehicles, the accommodations are thoroughly modern. Available features include keyless entry, satellite radio, cruise control, automatic climate control, navigation, heated power-adjustable mirrors, heated front seats, Bluetooth streaming, a USB input port, voice controls, a trip computer, a tire pressure monitoring display, and a nine-speaker Alpine sound system. Front and rear tow hooks, heavy-duty axles, an upgraded transfer case, rock rails, and an electronically disconnecting sway bar are among the features offered to amplify the Wrangler’s exceptionally formidable off road capabilities.
