2016 Kia Optima Buyer's Guide

The 2016 Kia Optima is an affordable midsize sedan with room for five passengers. The base Optima offers a competitive price of entry, although the car’s attractive styling and generous list of standard equipment make it seem like a more expensive vehicle. Three engines are available in the 2016 Kia Optima. Though the 2016 engine lineup suffers a slight decrease in horsepower from the 2015 models, Kia says it’s because the engines were tuned to prioritize efficiency over top-end performance. The 2016 Optima also offers an improvement in handling, thanks to an upgraded chassis. The Kia Optima has been fully redesigned for this model year. It is larger overall (both longer and wider) than the 2015 model, and the updated version also adds new features.

Three engines are offered in the 2016 Kia Optima. The base model comes with a 185-horsepower 2.4-liter four-cylinder that comes paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. A 247-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder comes with the same transmission. A turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 178 horsepower comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, both of which are new for the 2016 model year. All versions of the 2016 Kia Optima are front-wheel drive.

Why buy the 2016 Kia Optima?

The 2016 Kia Optima’s full redesign will help it stand out in the competitive midsize category, and the three available engines offer buyers plenty of efficient options. One of the 2016 Optima’s new features is called UVO eServices, a system that allows parents to keep tabs on their teenage drivers and set up parameters such as permitted driving speeds, times of day, and geographic areas. The 2016 Optima also features an updated suite of standard and available safety systems that includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, a rearview camera, and a 360-degree camera system. Take into account the Optima’s new offerings and its affordable entry-level price, and it becomes quite a competitive option as a family car.
