2016 Kia Sedona Buyer's Guide

The Kia Sedona is a 7 or 8 passenger minivan that was redesigned for the 2015 model year. It features a pleasant shape for a minivan, and a quiet cabin. The Sedona isn’t a lightweight, and the fuel economy suffers because of it. Again, thanks to that weight, performance isn’t the best in the class, but let’s be honest, this is a minivan. It certainly isn’t sluggish (unless fully loaded), and it is at least smooth. The suspension definitely isn’t tuned for sporty handling, but it is fairly comfortable. Space (and storage) is adequate in all but the third row, which is more cramped than some of the others in the segment.

What makes it move?

All Sedonas are powered by a 3.3 liter DOHC 24-valve V6 with Gasoline Direct Injection and Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing. Output is 276 horsepower and 248 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the front wheels through an electronically controlled 6-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic. Fuel economy for the L, LX, and EX trims is 18 miles per gallon city, 24 highway, and 20 mpg combined; the SX is slightly more efficient, while the fully loaded (and therefore heavier) SXL is slightly less frugal.

Why buy the 2016 Kia Sedona?

Base models come with an AM/FM/CD/MP3/SiriusXM Audio System with a 4.3” Touch Screen Audio Display, Bluetooth Wireless Technology Hands-Free Connectivity, steering wheel mounted audio controls, a USB/Auxiliary Input Jack, cruise control, Trip Computer, Active Eco System, power windows and locks, and 12 cup holders. The fully loaded SXL model includes a heated leather wrapped steering wheel, an 8 speaker Infinity Surround Sound Audio System with Center Channel and Subwoofer, Parking Assist with Front and Rear Sensors, Surround View Monitor, and luxurious First-Class Lounge Seating. The Sedona is rated five stars in the frontal and side crash tests, four stars in the rollover test, and five stars overall by the NHTSA, while the IIHS rates it Good in every category. Towing capacity is 3,500 lbs, enough for family vacations in a lightweight camper.
