2015 Lexus RC Buyer's Guide

The third in Lexus’ ongoing series of “F”-branded performance entries—and the only one now in production—the 2015 Lexus RC F launched for the current model year as the most powerful V8 sports car ever sold by the company. But there’s much more to the RC F than its high-velocity V8 engine, capable of delivering a 4.4-second 0-60 time and a top speed of 168 mph. To ensure the car could compete against some of the best-known sports-car names in the world, the RC F further put in extensive development time on one of the most demanding race courses in the world, Germany’s unforgiving Nürburgring. As a result, this latest Lexus F model serves up a track-tested driving experience that’s further complemented by a high-tech cabin, complete with a new “Remote Touchpad” interface for key vehicle systems.

What makes it move?

Leveraging the same engine block used for the Lexus LF A V10-powered supercar, brand engineers have created a 5.0-liter V8 for the RC F that serves up 467 hp and 389 lb.-ft. of torque. Drivers then rely on an eight-speed “Sports Program Direct Shift” transmission—and a standard Torsen rear differential—to wring the most from that output. There also a different diff available, designed directly by Lexus and enhanced by torque-vectoring technology, that adds a three-mode handling enhancement (beyond the car’s F Drive Mode setup).

Why buy the 2015 Lexus RC?

The 2015 Lexus RC F is clearly ready for the competition zone, thanks to features like an automatically deployable rear wing, form-fitting high-back sports seats, and an exclusive (and massive) brake package. But as Lexus also notes, it provides all the benefits of a “virtual decompression zone,” too, highlighted by a 17-speaker Mark Levinson audio system that dials up 825 watts of power and debuts “Clari-Fi” sound-processing for an incredibly crisp listening experience—and further features a high-efficiency, energy-saving design. Further, the RC F can hit 25 mpg on the highway, and even the climate system here combines high-performance and high comfort, showcasing “two-layer control of internal and ambient air, and upper/lower level independent air mixing.” Which certainly helps drivers keep cool despite owning one of the hottest cars in the country.
