2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans Buyer's Guide
The first of the new lightweight full-size cargo vans to market, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter can be said to have pretty much singlehandedly revolutionized the segment. Eschewing the traditional body-on-frame construction of previous heavy-duty commercial vans, the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter employs unit body construction just like the highly vaunted Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. This has served to make the Sprinter economical, easy to handle, and environmentally friendly. Mercedes-Benz treated the Sprinter to a rather significant refresh of the 2015 model year, so the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van is largely unchanged. Among the 2015 changes were a new grille treatment designed to admit more air into the engine compartment. Also on the subject of airflow, a Crosswind Assist feature was added to improve Sprinter’s stability in high winds.

What makes it move?
Since the 2010 model year, Mercedes-Benz has sent only diesel-powered Sprinters to the USA. For the 2016 model year, the base engine is a 2.1-liter inline four-cylinder with 161 horsepower and 265 ft-lbs of torque. A seven-speed transmission and rear wheel drive are standard. The V6 displaces 3.0-liters and produces 188 horsepower, along with 325 ft-lbs of torque. Powertrain is identical to the four-cylinder, with the addition of four-wheel drive as an option. Sprinter can tow up to 7,500 pounds with either engine—when properly equipped.
Why buy the 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Vans?
The 2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van can be configured to transport passengers or cargo. A crew version is also offered with seating for four. Three roof heights are offered; Low, High, and Super High. Two wheelbase lengths are offered as well. Sprinter 4X4 is offered with an elevated ride height to give it more capability in less than optimal situations like construction sites, oil fields, and other places where the lack of pavement is an issue. The all-wheel drive system can be switched on and off at will for better fuel economy. Subjected to harsh environments all over the world, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van has demonstrated marked reliability. Further, many of the technologically advanced safety features found in Mercedes passenger cars have been applied to Sprinter.
