2016 Toyota Rav4 Buyer's Guide
Back in 1995, the Toyota RAV4 was the first compact crossover SUV to debut in North America. Combining the profile of a small sport utility vehicle with unibody construction and the underpinnings of Toyota’s Corolla, RAV4 found a ready audience among those who appreciated the utility of the SUV, but abhorred its size and truck-like driving characteristics. For the 2016 model year, the RAV4’s popularity continues unabated, plus there’s a hybrid version of the beloved little compact crossover sport utility vehicle. Now, in addition to the RAV4’s style, versatility, utility and capability, the first-ever Toyota RAV4 Hybrid offers outstanding fuel economy too. With this new powertrain, as well as the revised styling of the 2016 model, the RAV4’s desirability should be enhanced even further.

What makes it move?
To power the 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is teamed with a small high torque electric motor, a continuously variable transmission, and a nickel metal hydride battery pack. Total system output is 194 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard equipment. Interestingly, the 2016 RAV4 Hybrid accelerates more quickly than the standard model. Fuel economy is rated at 34 miles per gallon in the city, 31 on the highway, and 33 combined. Driver-selectable operating modes permit the prioritization of fuel economy over acceleration.
Why buy the 2016 Toyota Rav4?
Sleeker and more dynamic in appearance than previous models, the 2016 Toyota RAV4 also offers the new Toyota Safety Sense package with forward collision warning, automated pre-collision braking, lane departure warning, smart cruise control, and several other cutting edge safety features. Maximum cargo capacity for RAV4 Hybrid measures 70.6 cubic feet. Rear privacy glass is standard, while additional sound insulation materials in the cargo area help RAV4 deliver a quieter ride as well. Toyota’s Entune audio system is standard across the board, featuring Bluetooth audio streaming and hands-free telephony. The system also encompasses Siri Eyes Free, voice recognition, and a rearview camera—all as standard equipment. To ease reliability concerns about the hybrid powertrain, Toyota warrants it for up to 150,000 miles in applicable states.
