2016 BMW 6 Series Buyer's Guide

The deliciously svelte 2016 BMW 6 Series comes to market revitalized with sleeker styling elements and even more elegance than ever before. Still offered in coupe, convertible, and four-door Gran Coupe forms; the traditional BMW kidney grille sees its slats reduced from 10 to nine. Larger grille openings admit more air to assuage the appetites of the more powerful engines. Further, the new front apron features a single full-width opening. LED foglights reside in its corners. The exterior rearview mirror housings have been reshaped to be more graceful and turn signal repeaters are integrated. At the rear, the wheel arches are more flared and a horizontal line across the rear of the car emphasizes its width. Interior trim has been updated with gloss black accents.

What makes it move?

Three engines are offered; a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder with 315 horsepower and 332 ft-lbs of torque powers 640i. The 650i gets a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 with 445 horsepower and 480 ft-lbs of torque. Two of the smoothest running engines in the world, both are paired with a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The rear-drive M6 gets 560 horsepower and 500 ft-lbs of torque from the 4.4, paired with a six-speed manual, or a seven-speed dual clutch automated manual.

Why buy the 2016 BMW 6 Series?

Few cars combine style, performance, elegance and pedigree like the 2016 BMW 6 Series. Its handsome appearance exudes status and sophistication whether you choose the coupe, convertible, or four-door Gran Coupe. While its immediate ancestor dates back 40 years and three generations to 1976, the model’s bloodline goes all the way back to the 1937 BMW 327 Sports Coupe, then flows forward through the highly regarded 2800 CS, 3.0 CS and the 3.0 CSI and CSL. Then, as now, the grand touring BMW coupes delivered luxurious accommodations, exceptional comfort, and remarkable quiet. And yet, when driven spiritedly, they also accelerated vigorously, handled marvelously, and sounded wonderful. In other words, with the 2016 BMW 6 Series, the company once again delivers the best of all worlds.
