2016 Cadillac ELR Buyer's Guide
The 2016 Cadillac ELR is a significantly better car than the 2014 model it replaces. Cadillac skipped over the 2015 model year to give itself an opportunity to make some much-needed improvements to the ELR’s product proposition. By all accounts, it seems the luxurious plug-in hybrid coupe has benefitted tremendously from its time spent woodshedding. Right off the top, even with its lower base starting price, the ELR offers additional power, more aggressive suspension settings, better brakes, and the latest driver assistance technologies—all as standard equipment. In short, the Cadillac ELR now really does what its looks previously suggested it could do. Given the underlying goodness of the overall concept, the handsome 2016 Cadillac ELR is one contemporary luxury coupe deserving of success.

What makes it move?
Propulsion for the 2016 Cadillac ELR is generated by a 115 kW electric motor fed by a 17.1 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. A full charge gives the ELR a range of approximately 39 miles when driven moderately. The ELR’s 83-horsepower 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine generates electricity when the battery pack approaches depletion. The engine also supplements the electric motor for additional thrust as required. Total output is 233 horsepower and 373 ft-lbs of torque. With a 240v system, recharging can be accomplished in about five hours.
Why buy the 2016 Cadillac ELR?
A strong step in the right direction, the 2016 Cadillac ELR has much in its favor. In fact, the model could well point the way to future Cadillac automobiles. Sleekly styled, the lovely two-door luxury coupe delivers concept car good looks to go along with its decidedly 21st century drive system. The electric powertrain means quiet and smooth operation, and its increased power output means the Cadillac will be more engaging to drive too. If your commute is less than 40 miles—and you have recharging stations at home and at work,—odds are you’ll seldom see a gas station while executing your day-to-day activities. Further, with the gasoline engine onboard generating electricity when needed for longer drives, your overall driving range is practically unlimited.
