2016 Cadillac XTS Buyer's Guide
Although the 2016 Cadillac XTS will soon be superseded by the CT6 at the top of the brand’s range, this full-size luxury sedan continues to add key new technology features in this, its third year on the market. And significantly, that includes the introduction of Apple CarPlay to Cadillac’s “CUE” driver interface, for advanced integration with select iPhones—which, along with other supported smartphones, can now take advantage of wireless inductive charging in the 2016 XTS. From a styling standpoint, Cadillac also has fine-tuned the XTS grille designs. That kind of attention no doubt keeps the car fresh for new customers, but the looming launch of Cadillac’s new flagship, as well as the XTS’ standard front-wheel-drive powertrain, have just as certainly slowed its sales momentum at times.

What makes it move?
The standard engine for the 2016 Cadillac XTS is a 3.6-liter V6 with direct injection, variable valve timing and outputs of 305 hp and 264 lb.-ft. of torque, with that unit serving up EPA grades of 18 mpg city/28 mpg highway/22 mpg combined (and a line of 17/26/20 with available all-wheel drive). The AWD-only XTS VSport dials up 410 horses and 369 lb.-ft. of twist from a similarly sized twin-turbo engine. Transmission-wise each has its own six-speed automatic.
Why buy the 2016 Cadillac XTS?
Drivers who don’t mind the FWD foundation of the 2016 Cadillac XTS will find it offers a surprising value in its segment, with pricing far below that of full-size entries from the German and Japanese luxury brands. Yet at the same time, the XTS can deliver ultra-lux touches like premium leather, climate-controlled seating; 4G connectivity and mobile wi-fi; and advanced driver assistance measures. Indeed, for the 2016 selling season, the XTS adds a 360-degree “Surround Vision” feature to a safety roster that already boasted lane-keeping assistance, side blind-zone alert, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic braking, and a “Safety Alert” driver’s seat. Conversely, when comparing the big Cadillac to similarly priced rivals, the XTS furnishes noticeable advantages in terms of both passenger and cargo volume.
