2015 Ford Focus Buyer's Guide

The Ford Focus ST is the highest performance version of the Focus Hatchback (at least until the Focus RS arrives in 2016). First introduced in 2012 as a 2013 model, the ST is a fun car to drive, with above average handling. The ride is stiffer than the regular Focus, but still compliant, and definitely not out of place for a daily driver. It’s also quite quick – 0 to 60 miles per hour takes under 6 seconds, and its top speed is well over 140 mph. A ‘Sound Symposer’ pipes sound into the cockpit to make spirited driving more exciting. Like the other Focus models, its cargo and interior space (especially the rear seats) are slightly tighter than some of its compact car competitors, but still more practical than some all-out sports cars.

What makes it move?

The Focus ST is powered by a 2.0 liter turbocharged and direct injected EcoBoost engine that like all Focus models features a micro-bored aluminum alloy block. The 252 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque is sent through a 6-speed manual transmission and on to the front wheels. Though the engine is capable of running on 87 octane, 91 octane is recommended for full power, and fuel economy is fairly dismal for a small car, at 23 mpg city, 32 highway, for a combined 26 mpg.


Why buy the 2015 Ford Focus?

The Focus ST has been designed for the driving aficionado, with its variable-ratio Electic Power-Assisted Steering with torque steer compensation, Torque Vectoring Control that adjusts the speed between the front wheels to reduce understeer and enhance cornering agility, unique suspension, and powerful engine. The ST comes standard with 18 inch wheels with 235/40R18 tires, with Z-rated tires available as an upgrade. Recaro seats (in partial or full leather) are available as an option. Despite its performance credentials, it remains just as practical as the regular Focus hatchback, at least until you have to hit the gas pump. Unique to Ford models, the keyless-entry keypad is handy, especially if you’ve misplaced your keys or just need to quickly grab something from inside the car.
