2015 Ford Mustang Buyer's Guide

The Ford Mustang Coupe is a rear-wheel drive 2-door fastback pony car that just entered its sixth generation for the 2015 model year. Highlights of this new model include an all new exterior with sharper lines, the introduction of an independent rear suspension (something that had only been previously available on limited edition models) that improves ride and cornering, especially on rough roads, and the return of a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine for the first time since the SVO Mustangs of the ‘80s. For more support, Recaro front seats are also available on some models. While the Mustang is a 2+2 coupe, the rear seats are best used for storage, or for small children (they do offer surprisingly usable LATCH anchors for child seats).

What makes it move?

There are three available engines for the Mustang, each of which is available with a 6-speed manual or an optional 6-speed SelectShift Automatic. The standard engine is the 3.7 liter V6 that makes 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. An optional 2.3 liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder makes 310 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque (when running on 93 octane), and is the most economical engine. The most powerful engine is the optional 5.0 liter V8, which makes 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque (also on 93 octane), and is good for a 0 to 60 mph time in the mid 4 second range.

Why buy the 2015 Ford Mustang?

Performance Packages are available for EcoBoost and V8 models with the manual transmission, and outfits the car with features such as a stiffer suspension, bigger brakes, and better cooling, all to help make the Mustang better on the track. To help you accomplish what you have wanted to do since you were a teenager, the 2015 Mustang offers an Electronic Line Lock feature that locks the front wheels while allowing the rears to turn in order to help you perform the perfect smokey burnout, while a Launch Control system helps ensure consistent 0 to 60 runs. Safety systems include the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert and Adaptive Cruise Control with Rain-Sensing Wipers. So far the IIHS has only tested the Mustang in the moderate overlap front test, where it scored Good.
