2015 Kia Forte Buyer's Guide
Competing in the traditional compact-car segment, the 2015 Kia Forte family includes sedan, coupe and five-door hatchback bodystyles, with each offering the brand’s signature design cues as well as their own unique advantages. For Forte5 owners, the car features a particularly aggressive look that was introduced just two years ago, when the current-generation car made its debut as an all-new model, along with the versatility benefits of a five-door hatchback bodystyle. It’s also bigger, longer, lower, wider, more powerful and more fuel efficient than the past iteration. The result was a noticeable uptick in sales volume for Forte in 2014, along with continued gains early in 2015; on the other hand, the Forte roster does trail the rest of the mainstream entries here when it comes to absolute volume

What makes it move?
Standard in the 2015 Kia Forte5 is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that can serve up 173 hp and 154 lb.-ft. of torque, with that output exclusively sent through a six-speed automatic transmission to deliver fuel-economy grades of 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway/28 mpg combined. But the fun one is the available four-cylinder turbo, which squeezes 201 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque from a mere 1.6 liters of displacement, then offers both manual and paddle-shifting six-speed transmissions.
Why buy the 2015 Kia Forte?
Showcasing the kind of features and fuel-economy ratings expected of the top mainstream compacts, but selling at much smaller volumes, the 2015 Kia Forte5 is for drivers who want to stand out in an increasingly crowded compact segment—but without sacrificing the confidence that comes with buying one of the mainstream choices. After all, not only is the Kia Forte5 one of just a handful of compact hatches still sold in this country, it also benefits from the engineering expertise of its higher-volume corporate cousin, Hyundai.
It’s further worth noting that the Forte5 offers something its few rivals don’t: available Flexsteer technology. This system, standard on the Forte5 EX, allows drivers to tune the car’s steering response for Comfort, Normal and Sport modes.
