2016 Kia Sportage Buyer's Guide
The Kia Sportage SUV is said to have been the world’s first production vehicle equipped with a knee airbag. Introduced to the USA in 1995, the first generation model was an attempt at building a small off-road capable vehicle. This failed, and the Sportage was withdrawn from this market in 2002. Reliability issues were something of a hindrance for the first generation Sportage as well. For model year 2005, the Sportage returned, this time more like the pavement friendly crossover sport utility model we know today. The current version debuted in 2010 with sleek new styling, even more comfort and convenience features, and as always, keeping a watchful eye on the bottom line. A few minor updates are instituted for the 2016 Kia Sportage SUV.

What makes it move?
Power for the 2016 Kia Sportage SUV comes from a choice of two different remarkably robust four-cylinder engines. The base mill produces 182 horsepower and 177 ft-lbs of torque from 2.4-liters of displacement. The upgrade is a turbocharged 2.0-liter with 260 horsepower and 269 ft-lbs of torque. Front wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard equipment; all-wheel drive is offered as an option. Both engines employ gasoline direct injection (GDI) to ensure an optimal fuel burn. This maximizes power output and reduces emissions.
Why buy the 2016 Kia Sportage?
The delightfully fun to drive the five-passenger compact crossover sport utility Kia Sportage was aptly dubbed. This, in fact, is wholly telegraphed by its look. The crisp European-inspired styling penned by Kia’s lead designer Peter Schreyer’s team promise driving characteristics marked by a great deal of agility and the ability to make the most of the output of its engines. Happily the Sportage lives up to the promise handily. This is one sporty little crossover. It’s a Kia so you know it’s nicely equipped. For 2016, the base model gets a package incorporating a touchscreen display and a rearview camera, while the upper trim levels get leather upholstery as standard equipment. The top trim level gets ventilated seats and a panoramic sunroof as standard equipment.
