2016 Lincoln MKX Buyer's Guide

The Lincoln is a 5 passenger mid-size luxury crossover SUV that was redesigned for the 2016 model year. No longer simply a badge-engineered version of the Ford Edge, the exterior is in line with other modern Lincolns, yet still original and attractive. While the outside can seem somewhat compact when seen from some angles, the interior is roomy, with a useable rear seat and a reasonable amount of cargo space. The MKX uses a pushbutton shifter, which takes some getting used to, but does free up a bit of space. The MKX is available with Ford’s rear outboard safety belts with inflatable airbags, and has been rated five stars by the NHTSA in the Frontal Crash and Side Crash tests, four stars in the Rollover test, and five stars Overall.

What makes it move?

The Lincoln MKX is available with two different engine. The first is a naturally aspirated 3.7 liter V6 that puts out 303 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. A step up is the turbocharged 2.7 liter EcoBoost V6 that is capable of 335 horsepower and an impressive 380 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are backed by a 6 speed SelectShift automatic transmission, and both are available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations. The turbocharged engine is slightly more economical, and is rated at 17 miles per gallon in the city, 24 on the highway, and 19 combined. Front wheel drive versions are slightly more frugal on the highway.

Why buy the 2016 Lincoln MKX?

The available Lincoln Drive Control with Continuously Controlled Damping uses sensors to adjust the vehicle’s suspension and steering to the driving conditions, depending on your mood (Comfort, Normal, or Sport). The Lincoln MKX comes with heated (and available cooled) front seats, while second-row outboard seat warmers are optional, as is a Panoramic Vista Roof that spans both rows of seating. Active noise control cancels out unwanted noises in the cabin for a more pleasant driving experience. For the ultimate in luxury, Lincoln offers Bridge of Weir Deepsoft leather seating surfaces and real Brown Walnut Swirl or Espresso Ash Swirl trim. Two optional Revel audio systems are available, the 13 speaker Revel Audio System and the 19 speaker Revel Ultima System.
