2016 Lincoln Navigator Buyer's Guide

The Lincoln Navigator is a full-size 8 passenger luxury sport utility vehicle that is available in both normal and long wheelbase (Navigator L) versions. The third generation was introduced in 2007, but a refresh for 2015 brought a few updates including a new front grille and an EcoBoost engine. Still a traditional body on frame design (based on the last generation of the F-150), the Navigator can haul 8 people and their gear and tow up to 9,000 lbs (short wheelbase 4x2 models) with a tow/haul mode and standard trailer sway control. The interior is mostly what you’d expect from a Lincoln with reams of leather. Expect an all new (probably no longer truck-based) Navigator for the 2017 model year.

What makes it move?

All Navigators are powered by a 3.5 liter twin turbocharged direct injection EcoBoost V6; power numbers are 380 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission sends power to the rear wheels, or optionally to all four wheels. Fuel economy for short wheelbase 2x4 Navigators is 16 miles per gallon city, 22 highway, and 18 mpg combined, while the longer wheelbase 4x4 Navigator L is rated at 15 mpg in the city and 19 highway, for 16 mpg combined.

Why buy the 2016 Lincoln Navigator?

Standard features on the Navigator include passive entry with push-button start, heated and cooled front seats, real wood inlays, a 600 watt THX II Certified 5.1 Surround Audio System with 14 speakers (including subwoofer), power rear liftgate, power deployable running boards, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control. The available continuously controlled damping system uses sensors to monitor the suspension, body motion, steering, and breaking dynamics and then configures the suspension and steering according to your selected operating mode (Comfort, Normal, or Sport). Also available is a Dual-Headrest DVD Entertainment System that features two seven-inch LCD screens built into the front-row headrests. Safety systems include the Blind Spot Information System and Forward and Reverse Sensing Systems.
