2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG Buyer's Guide
The Mercedes-AMG GT is a front mid-engine rear wheel drive 2 door 2 seat sports car. First offered for the 2016 model year, the car essentially replaces the SLS AMG at the top of the Mercedes-AMG lineup, and does so with improved looks (though without the gull-wing doors) and less weight. The chassis is a spaceframe design made from aluminum, while magnesium, carbon fiber, and steel are used elsewhere in the body. The sportier Mercedes-AMG GT S version is currently the only trim that is available here, and also serves as the safety car for Formula 1 races. We expect more powerful versions (and perhaps a Black Series version) eventually.

What makes it move?
The Mercedes-AMG GT S is powered by a handcrafted 4.0 liter AMG biturbo V8 with direct injection and dry sump lubrication that is connected to a 7 speed AMG Speedshift dual clutch transmission. Power output is 503 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, which is enough to propel the car to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 193 mph. Fuel economy is rated at 16 miles per gallon in the city, 22 highway, and 18 mpg combined.
Why buy the 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG?
AMG Dynamic Select is standard, and offers four preset modes (Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Race) plus an Individual mode that alter the car’s performance character by changing settings for the engine and throttle response, shift programming, ESP, suspension, exhaust sound, and ECO Start/Stop system. There is also a Race Start function to optimize traction. Performance options include the AMG Exterior Carbon Fiber Package, a carbon fiber engine compartment cover, and dynamic engine and transmission mounts. The AMG High-performance braking system includes 15.4 inch front rotors and 14.2 inch rear rotors, or the AMG Carbon-Ceramic braking system is optional with 15.8 inch front rotors. The Mercedes-AMG GT comes standard with a 640 watt Burmester Surround Sound system with 10 speakers, but an optional 1,000 watt Burmester High-End Surround system with 11 speakers is also available.
