2016 RAM ProMaster City Buyer's Guide

The 2016 RAM ProMaster City is a compact utility van that is available in two configurations for different general purposes: carrying passengers (the Wagon model), and carrying around necessities on the job (the Tradesman Cargo Van model). Both 2016 ProMaster City models are highly customizable, giving the RAM truck brand an edge in this super competitive segment, enabling buyers to equip their vehicles for very specific purposes. The ProMaster City, which was introduced last year, was designed to help the utility-focused RAM brand earn a place amongst the strong competition in the compact van segment. The market for small utility vans has been heating up recently, but the passenger-focused ProMaster City Wagon and the cargo-carrying champion ProMaster City Tradesman both offer unique qualities.

Both versions of the 2016 RAM ProMaster City are powered by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that produces 178 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Both versions are front-wheel drive. The ProMaster City Tradesman is rated for 1,883 pounds of payload and offers higher-than-average cargo capacity of 131.7 cubic feet, and the Wagon’s five-passenger seating can be adjusted for additional cargo space. The ProMaster City can pull up to 2,000 pounds when properly equipped.

Why buy the 2016 RAM ProMaster City?

The 2016 RAM ProMaster City is aimed at buyers who need to carry a lot of stuff in a small footprint and, also, buyers who plan to customize the van to work on the go. The van’s handling benefits from a multilink independent rear suspension, giving the ProMaster City an advantage in drivability in tight urban areas, and the 60/40 split rear doors can open to either 90 or 180 degrees for easier access. The rear step-in height is just 21.5 inches, for easy entry, exit, and loading. RAM’s also loaded the ProMaster City with plenty of safety features, such as hill start assist, trailer control, and rollover mitigation. Both versions of the 2016 RAM ProMaster City are available in two trim levels.
