2016 RAM ProMaster City Buyer's Guide
The RAM ProMaster City is a compact van, available in both cargo (two passenger) and wagon (five passenger) models. The cabin of the ProMaster City was designed with comfortable ergonomics in mind, especially important for a vehicle that may be used all day long as a mobile office and workshop. Access to the rear seats isn’t the best in wagon models, and rear leg room is limited. Because of the unibody design and modern suspension, the ProMaster City handles more like a car than a commercial van, and thanks to its compact (but still very usable) size, it is easy to maneuver, though rear visibility isn’t the best. The ProMaster City was first introduced as a 2015 model.

What makes it move?
The ProMaster City is powered by a 16-valve 2.4 liter 4-cylinder Tigershark MultiAir2 engine. Power is 178 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque, all of which is sent to the front wheels via a class-exclusive 9-speed automatic transmission. To help improve efficiency, the engine uses a smart alternator and a variable A/C compressor that run at the most efficient times, like when decelerating or braking. Fuel economy is rated at 21 miles per gallon city and 29 highway, for a combined 24 mpg. Power is adequate when empty, but the ProMaster City can feel sluggish when fully loaded.
Why buy the 2016 RAM ProMaster City?
Cargo versions of the ProMaster City have a cargo volume of 131.7 cubic feet, with a maximum cargo width of 60.4 inches (48.4 inches wheel-to-wheel), length of 87.2 inches, and height of 51.4 inches. Maximum cargo capacity is 1,883 pounds, and the floor of the ProMaster City cargo van features six standard D-ring tie downs that have a combined capacity of 1,000 pounds. Base versions are functional, with hard plastics (that should be durable, but aren’t great to touch), and not much to get in the way of the job at hand. Wagon versions get premium upholstery and an acoustic headliner and floor carpet. Towing capacity is a maximum of 2,000 lbs, when properly equipped, and the ProMaster City comes with a 5 year or 100,000 mile powertrain warranty.
