2016 Toyota Sienna Buyer's Guide
Somewhere within the confines of Toyota HQ, the team responsible for developing the Toyota Sienna is having themselves a good chuckle. You see, while the Toyota nameplate is pretty much synonymous with staid responsibility, its entry in the most staid of the staid market segments is the most aggressively performance-oriented model offered within its competitive set. Need proof? The 2016 Toyota Sienna SE numbers among its features a lowered ride height, a sport-tuned suspension system, 19-inch alloy wheels, side skirt body elements, and darkened sport trim. Toyota’s enthusiastic Sienna product planning team did this with the specific intention of making its minivan more fun to drive—and it absolutely works. The Sienna SE’s agility easily approaches that of a sports sedan—and it's a minivan!
What makes it move?
Power comes courtesy of Toyota’s 3.5-liter V6, which is capable of producing 266 horsepower and 245 ft-lbs of torque. Front-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission are standard, while all-wheel drive is offered with the Sienna LE, XLE, and Limited. This also makes the Sienna the only minivan sold in the U.S. to offer all-wheel drive. Electronic power steering ensures more of the engine’s output is used for motivation, while improving fuel economy. Properly equipped, the 2016 Toyota Sienna is capable of towing up to 3,500 pounds.
Why buy the 2016 Toyota Sienna?
You can choose between seven and eight passenger capability—or you can have 150 cubic feet of cargo space with the third row folded and the second row removed. The third row also split-folds for increased flexibility when it comes to cargo handling. The Sienna’s optional Dual View Entertainment Center multiplexes two video sources within a single 16.4-inch widescreen. The arrangement accommodates Blu-Ray, HDMI, and an SDXC card reader. Offering outstanding versatility, it accepts ten different audio and video formats, as well as playback from up to two separate sources. You’ll also leave yelling at the kids behind, as the Sienna’s Driver Easy Speak solution amplifies your voice through the audio system’s rear speakers. This, combined with the Sienna’s conversation mirror, will make your kids think you’re clairvoyant.
