2016 Volvo S60 Buyer's Guide
For the 2016 model year, Volvo has added two additional models to its S60 range. Upping the luxury factor is the 2016 Volvo S60 Inscription, while the rugged new 2016 Volvo S60 Cross Country is designed primarily with off-road excursions in mind. This makes it one of but a few truly trail ready four-door sedans ever to be offered by a mainstream manufacturer. The new Volvo S60 Inscription enjoys an additional three inches over the base S60’s wheelbase, which is totally given over to increasing rear-seat legroom. Meanwhile, the Volvo S60 Cross Country keeps the standard wheelbase length, but gets a 2.5-inch ride height increase. Skid plates underneath and plastic moldings on its fenders help fend off any potential damage off-road forays might impose.

The front-wheel-drive S60 T5 Drive-E and Inscription use a 240-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four with 258 ft-lbs of torque. The all-wheel-drive S60 T5, T5 Inscription, and Cross Country models get 250 horsepower and 266 ft-lbs from a 2.5-liter turbocharged five-cylinder. Front-drive T6 Drive-E models turbocharge and supercharge the 2.0-liter four to make 302 horsepower and 295 ft-lbs. A 325-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with 354 ft-lbs of torque powers the T6 R-Design AWD. Front-drive S60 models get an eight-speed automatic transmission—all-wheel drive models use a six-speed automatic.
Why buy the 2016 Volvo S60?
Fluidly voluptuous styling is but one among the many reasons to consider pressing the mid-size Volvo sedan into service. A wonderful family car with smooth-running and powerful engines—regardless of your powertrain choice—the S60 also serves nicely as executive transportation. Yet another entry in the 2016 Volvo S60’s ledger of attributes is its deft blending of comfort and dynamics. The newfound legroom and luxurious ambiance offered by the S60 Inscription, situated alongside the go-just-about-anywhere capability of the rugged Volvo S60 Cross Country, also introduces exceptional versatility to the model line. And finally, given we’re talking Volvo, advanced safety features are yet another strong point in the S60’s favor. Finely crafted and a solid performer, Volvo’s S60 ticks a lot of boxes.
