2016 Volvo V60 Buyer's Guide

The 2016 Volvo V60 Wagon is a luxury station wagon that provides comfortable accommodations for five passengers, along with extra cargo space. (However, the cargo space in the Volvo V60 is smaller than the cargo areas in most other premium wagons.) Volvo usually has a wagon offering in the lineup, and the V60 follows the same formula as previous models, with the wagon serving essentially as a longer and more versatile version of a Volvo sedan. Two different models of the Volvo V60 are available this year, each with a different turbocharged engine, for peppy acceleration and very good fuel economy. The Volvo V60 Wagon was introduced for the 2015 model year, and there are no major changes for the 2016 version of the vehicle.

What makes it move?

The base 2016 Volvo V60 Wagon, the T5 Drive-E, features a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower and 250 lb-ft of torque, with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The T6 AWD R-Design provides a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder making 325 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, with a six-speed automatic transmission. The very limited Polestar edition tunes this engine to 345 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Front-drive is standard on the base model; the others feature all-wheel drive.

Why buy the 2016 Volvo V60?

Like the Volvo wagons that came before it, the 2016 Volvo V60 Wagon is contemporary and stylish, fun to drive, reasonably fuel efficient, and safe. Though the V60 Wagon does not offer any more seating than a Volvo sedan, it offers more cargo space and is a pleasant alternative to a crossover, though it’s perhaps best left to average sized families. The Volvo V60 earned a Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS, with top  marks in its crash tests, and Volvo also offers a comprehensive list of standard and optional safety equipment. Of course, Volvo also packages the V60 with plenty of other equipment and features at every trim level, making the Volvo V60 Wagon a great option for a new family vehicle.
