2016 Volvo V60 Buyer's Guide

If you’re among the rare breed of automotive enthusiast with an appreciation for wagons, Volvo has something really special to share with you. The sleek new Volvo V60 station wagon inherits many of the lovely S60 sedan’s eye-caressing styling cues, while imbuing the design with added utility. If you look closely, you’ll note a pronounced wedge-shape, which gives the wagon a particularly dynamic appearance. The way the lines of the car flow make it look exceptionally athletic, with a solidly planted stance. The extremely short front and rear overhangs amplify this. Happily, the power and handling of the Volvo V60 are commensurate with the look of the car. In other words, this Volvo is perfectly capable of cashing every check it writes.

What makes it move?

Power comes from a choice of three engines. The base powerplant is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder with 240 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs of torque. This engine features an overboost function, which permits it to generate up to 280 ft-lbs of torque for the first 10 seconds of wide-open throttle if the transmission is in second gear or higher. Said transmission is an eight-speed automatic, feeding the front wheels. The upgrade is a 250-horsepower turbocharged five-cylinder with 266 ft-lbs of torque fitted to the V60 T5 AWD model. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The top engine choice is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline six with 325 horsepower and 354 ft-lbs of torque, which is also teamed with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive for the V60 T6 AWD R-Design model.
