The BMW 4-series and M4 roll into 2026 with only tech and safety changes including now standard speed limit information, lane keeping assistant, and forward collision mitigation.
The BMW 4-Series is a stylish car that offers most of the performance and styling of a sports car without compromising much in terms of comfort or practicality. It features sleek, low styling and is available in a few different body styles, including as a convertible. Performance is brisk, while ride and comfort have been carefully balanced to provide a driving experience that is both entertaining and luxurious. The BMW 4-Series competes with sedans and coupes such as the Audi A5, the Mercedes Benz C-Class and the Lexus IS. The top-of-the-line M4 offers blistering performance and razor-sharp handling but in a practical coupe package.
The BMW 4-Series is available in two different body styles: coupe and a convertible in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configuration. There are two engines available in the 4-Series: the 430i models are powered by a turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder engine that produces 255 horsepower mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The performance-oriented M4 gets the long-time traditional inline six-cylinder 3.0L twin-turbo engine with a 6-speed manual transmission that produces an impressive 473 horsepower and 406 lb.-ft of torque. The M4 Competition uses the same engine, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission tuned to produce 503 horsepower. However, all the M4 models are rear-wheel-drive only. The M440 is available in both RWD and AWD, and it is powered by a 3.0L turbocharged inline 6-cylinder engine that produces 382 horsepower. Trim levels are all similarly equipped across the 4-Series. Notable features include 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, heated side mirrors with power-folding function, 10-way power adjustable front seats, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, BMW's iDrive system with a 14.9-inch display screen, cruise control, and rain-sensing wipers. The M4 being the sportier model in the lineup, includes several added standard features such as adaptive sport suspension, integrated navigation, and a premium 16-speaker surround audio system. Since the various trims within the 4-Series share similar equipment levels, BMW offers a range of optional packages and features that can be added to further customize the vehicle. Available safety features include front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning system, blind spot monitoring, forward and rear collision mitigation, pedestrian detection system, driver attention alert, and a traffic sign recognition system.
