What's New on the 2026 Model?

The BMW iX is one of BMW's latest creations, having made its debut in 2022 as an all-electric SUV, and since then it has remained relatively unchanged until now. This year iX expectantly receives a refresh marked by a brand-new grille without a mesh pattern improving its sleek design. New headlights with a vertical LED line pattern instead of the previous horizontal design add a more aggressive look and are complimented nicely with a new bumper design. The iX trim lineup has evolved with a new xDrive45 base trim, followed by the xdrive60 trim and the high performance M70 trim.

Overview

The iX is BMW's first electric SUV with an all-wheel drive dual-motor powertrain that provides a good driving range, while at the same time delivering high quality interior features that provide great comfort. Various tech features keep passengers comfortable and entertained while various safety features keep all minds at ease. These strengths allow the iX to excel when compared to its competitors like the Cadillac Vistiq and Lyriq, Volvo EX90, and the Rivian R1S.

Model Highlights

BMW's iX comes in three different trims the xDrive45, xDrive60, and M70. The 45 is powered by two electric motors that produce 402 horsepower and a hefty 516 pound-feet of torque. The xDrive60 has been tuned for 536 horsepower, while the Mighty M70 produces 650 horsepower and an earth spinning 811 pound-feet of torque. The iX is quick even in its base form, with the xDrive 40 reaching 60 mph in 4.6 seconds, and the M70 reportedly reaching 60 mph in 3.2 to 3.7 seconds, a very impressive time considering the iX weighs 5,275 lbs.! Standard Suspension technology includes a double-wishbone front axle and a 5-link rear axle paired with adaptive dampers, and a Servotronic electric steering component. The M70 on the other hand adds adaptive air suspension with shock absorbers that can be controlled electronically and are tuned specifically for the M-series. Being the sportiest trim, the M70 also includes anti-roll bars, 4-wheel steering for added handling, and M sport brakes with red painted calipers. Regarding the powertrain efficiency, BMW claims the xDrive45 can travel up to 312 miles, while the xDrive60 can travel up to 340 miles, and the M70 up to 302 miles due to the increased power demand. Fast charging comes standard with an estimated time to charge from 10 to 80 percent in 35 minutes, and the SUV can also be charged at home via a level 2 home station. Standard features on the xDrive45 include 20-inch dark grey wheels, LED headlamps and taillamps with auto high-beam, heated front seats, BMW's driving assistant which includes automatic lane change by glancing at the side mirror, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and blind spot detection. A Harman Kardon sound system also comes standard. The front dash is adorned with a curved digital display integrating the 14.9-inch infotainment screen with BMW's latest iDrive 8.5 interface and the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto also come standard, as well as a Wi-fi hotspot and an 18-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. The xDrive60 keeps most of the standard features of the xDrive45 trim and adds the powertrain increase, as well as improved mileage. The sporty M70 trim ups the power to 650 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque, and adds luxury features like an illuminated kidney grille, M shadowline lights, multi-functional seats with massage functionality, M steering wheel, along with interior and exterior M design features. Standard safety features on the iX line include 6 airbags, front and rear parking sensors, lane departure warning, active blind spot monitoring, forward and rear collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, an exit warning and a traffic sign information system with speed limit assistance.
