The BMW Z4 carries over with minimal changes for 2026.
The BMW Z4's low starting price brings it in for less than such heavyweights as the Porsche 718 Boxster and Chevy Corvette but pricier than the Mazda Miata and Nissan 370Z. The BMW Z4 offers handling that meets or beats than the Porsche but with more refinement and luxury than the Corvette. Mazda and Nissan cannot keep up with the Z4 in terms of performance even while the BMW matches them for fuel economy.
The BMW Z4 is offered in two trims. The sDrive30i, is the base model, powered by BMW's latest version of their 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 255 horsepower and 295-pound feet of torque. It is paired up with an 8-speed ZF automatic transmission sending all power exclusively to the rear wheels. This combination enables 0-60 mph sprints in 5.2 seconds. Fuel economy is respectable, with an EPA estimate of 28 mpg combined in the Z4. The M40i version of the car gets a 3.0L inline 6-cylinder engine aided by a turbocharger. Power is rated at 382 hp and like the 4-cylinder, it is mated to an 8-speed automatic, sending power to the rear wheels. BMW claims a 0-60 time of just 3.9 seconds for the Z4 M40i. Standard features include 18" wheels, LED headlights and a power-folding top with a glass rear window. Inside, a dual-zone climate control, auto-dimming heated mirrors, the audio system is a 10-speaker, 200-watt number, while a Harmon/Kardon 12-speaker system is available. BMW's iDrive 7 infotainment system features a 10.25-inch touchscreen that dominates the center control panel. Apple CarPlay is also included. The M40i version gets a few more standard features as well, in addition to the bigger and more powerful engine. Inside, the M40i version comes standard M performance 14-way power adjustable seats, voice activated navigation and BMW ConnectedDrive services, among other features. Safety features include forward collision mitigation, pedestrian detection, a traffic sign information system, six airbags including driver and passenger knee airbags, roll-over protection as well as traction and stability control.
